Trevor Bailey dinner at Garon Park

CRICKET: THE Trevor Bailey Memorial dinner at Garon Park in Southend promises to be a big event for all the area’s cricket fans.

It takes place on Saturday, June 2, with tickets costing £35.

Essex hero Graham Napier will be the special guest, with money raised going to the Essex and Southend Sports Trust, the Lord’s Taveners and the Napier benefit year.

The cricketing dinner is in honour of the late Trevor Bailey CBE (pictured) who died in a fire in February last year.

He was an England Test cricketer and broadcaster and has retrospectively been calculated to have been the leading all-rounder in the world for most of his international career.

For 26 years he was a regular on BBC radio’s Test Match Special programme, commentating from all over the world.

The main speaker at Garons has yet to be confirmed, and the evening is also supported by this year’s Southend Cricket Festival committee and Alleyn Court school in Great Wakering, where Trevor was a pupil.

The event is suitable for suitable for wives and girlfriends and will feature Mark Peters as the Master of Ceremonies and auctioneer.

It starts at 7.15pm for an 8pm sit down. For tickets contact agh477799@aol.com or telephone 01702 477799.
