Mayor hopes for sporting cooperation as Thurrock RFC get set for big season

RUGBY: IN one of his last duties before his term of office ends, Mayor Charlie Curtis and his wife, Mayoress Mrs W Curtis visited Orsett Cricket Club.

He met Thurrock RFC’s Director of Rugby, Ralph Henderson MBE, the first team captain Darryl Worster and T-Birds’ skipper Mercedes Foy, and Thurrock and England young player Michael Stanley. Also present was Orsett Cricket Club’s stalwart and trustee Paul Boreham.

After their magnificent season where they swept all before them Thurrock RFC is keen to have an affiliation with all sports and organisations in the area. Many great rugby players have aso been great cricketers.

The Mayor – himself a former top sportsman in Thurrock –was recently part of the world record breaking scrum at Thurrock RFC.

He is backing future sporting success in the borough. And with world famous internationals appearing at Oakfield next season he should have plenty to see come the new season.
