Stanford's Warren sees frost hit hauls
3:40pm Wednesday 4th April 2012 in Sport
ANGLING: FOLLOWING an overnight frost, the match at Stanford-le-Hope’s Warren on Sunday suffered with possibly the lowest weights of the year so far.
The fish were shoaled up tightly between pegs 13 and 14 where Stan Howard took the honours with a weight of 39lb 6oz made up of of skimmers and bream taken on the pole using both pellet and sweetcorn baits.
In second place was an unlucky Brian Peck, fishing from peg 13, with 13lb 6oz although this weight did not reflect the weight he could have had if he had not lost several quality fish.
Fishing in the comfort of peg 24, Johnny Walker took 10lb of roach plus a bonus tench all taken on caster for a total of 12lb 4oz to claim third place.
Although the fishing was slow due to the overnight temperature, several anglers still managed to take double figure weights of silver fish.
This match was the first in a series whereby an additional £1 will be collected from every angler on a weekly basis until the end of September, when a one-off match will take place with an opportunity to win the accumulated prize fund.
All you have to do to qualify for this one off match is turn up for six matches between now and the middle of September.
There will be another match this Sunday and anyone wishing to fish should contact Mick Noakes on 07855 558693.
Entry will be £10 pools plus the additional £1 for the September match and all anglers must bring two keepnets.
