Thurrock 3rds 1, Braintree Pheonix 3rds 3 HOCKEY: FROM the outset Braintree side pilled on the pressure and Thurrock struggled.
After 15 minutes the visitors finally got the opening goal following a free hit on the Thurrock 25m line.
Thurrock gradually got into the game with Michael Fleming shooting inches wide after dribbling into the area but Phoenix had most of the game.
Five minutes into the second half Phoenix added to their score from a penalty corner.
On the hour, a mishit clearance fell kindly for the speedy Braintree attacker to drive into the area and flick the ball home.
Five minutes from time Thurrock were given some hope when Tom Archer found Jimmy Venus who scramble the ball over the line.
The defeat seriously dents Thurrock’s promotion chances.
