Pegasus Palmerians 31 Writtle Wanderers 3 RUGBY: PEGASUS put aside recent disappointments on the pitch to show a timely return to form on Saturday whilst playing bottom of the table Writtle..

In what was targeted as a ‘must win’ game, Pegasus were also charged by coach Tim Hughes with producing the type of solid performance that has alluded the Herd Lane team in recent games, writes Frazer Clark.

From the kick off both teams stated their intentions.

Pegasus attacked through the midfield while Writtle played tight to the ruck through their forwards.

Pegasus gained first blood through Bramwell’s boot, only to see it immediately cancelled out by a penalty from Writtle.

Peg, spurred on by captain Wayne Collier, went back on the attack. From a solid scrum, Peg Captain Collier was given enough running room to put away fullback Freeman, who was returning after several months absence. And he scored in the corner.

Pegasus – buoyed by their first try – then forced themselves back up the pitch. And several quick rucks inside the Writtle 22 saw captain Collier muscle his way over the line.

With both conversions made this gave Pegasus a 17-3 lead at the half.

The second half saw again a physical start from both sides, but from a Writtle attack, Pegasus flankers Winch and Hughes being sent to the bin.

This led to the 13 Pegasus players defending their line from repeated Writtle attacks.

Peg’s defensive resilience was rewarded when winger Dan Collier intercepted two Writtle backline passes, to score a ‘length of the pitch’ try.

With the restoration of the Pegasus flankers the game was over as a contest. And Pegasus recorded a 31-3 win.
