In Division 3 leaders Benfleet go head-to-head with nearest rivals Stanford le Hope tomorrow (Saturday July 4) in a match that could have a huge say in the end of season championship race.
Benfleet head to Stanford Rec unbeaten, while their hosts have recovered from their shock defeat to Woodford Green a few weeks ago to hit the win trail running.
Stanford will be aiming to make up some ground on the leaders and Benfleet want to put more daylight between them and their hosts.
“The gap is still not quite big enough if we walk away with a high-scoring draw, but we are going there to win,” said Benfleet skipper Paul Tremain.
“But it’s not at a critical stage because there is still a long way to go.”
Benfleet welcome back Mike Tremain from injury and have Sean Pritchard available again, while Andy Prophet is not available again.
Southend captain Wayne Spear was delighted with his team spirit at Old Brentwoods and is in buoyant mood ahead of hosting lowly Woodford Green.
“We go into the match full of confidence,” he said. “We can get the runs and I think we can get teams out, so I'm hopeful of getting a result.”
Belhus’ visit to Woodford Green was abandoned due to rain and skipper Richard Day is looking forward to playing a home match.
“We were disappointed because it was a game we were looking to pick up 20 points from, but now we're concentrating on getting a result against Ongar,” Day said.
