Spurs man joins Grays

FORMER Tottenham Hotspur manager Peter Shreeves has been appointed as the new director of football at Grays Athletic.

In a restructure of the board, ex-West Ham United midfielder John Moncur is the club’s new chairman.

Moncur replaces Mick Woodward, who has stepped down, but Woodward will stay on as the chief executive at the New Recreation Ground.

“As documented at the end of last season I am stepping down as chairman of Grays Athletic Football Club as I feel that the club needs to move in a new direction,” Woodward said.

“With this in mind myself and the board have decided to reform and add to the board of directors at Grays Athletic with football-minded personnel.”

Apart from Moncur and Shreeves other appointments are: Andy Swallow as vice-chairman and Chris Knott as football and facilities coordinator. Phil O’Reilly will remain as club secretary and Val Pepperell as fixtures secretary.

Kevin Lamb is to become a shareholder and full director of Grays Athletic and will be communications director.

Added Woodward: “I would like to thank all the existing board for all the hard work and dedication that they have shown over the past seasons.

“I hope that all our fans get behind the new board and move the club forward, starting with the pre-season friendly against West Ham United.”

Earlier this summer, Grays appointed former Chelmsford City boss Craig Edwards as their new manager.

Grays have also announced four new signings.

Nick McKoy, 22, is a 6ft 3in midfielder, who was previously with Wimbledon/MK Dons, Cardiff and Torquay. Alan McLeod, 28, is an ex-Grays player and former Arsenal professional who has been captaining Tooting.

Marcel McKie, 24, is a left-sided player who was a professional at Tottenham and went on to play for Lewes.

Serge Makofo, 22, a 5ft 11in striker, is an ex-MK Dons player. Grays are hoping his pace and ability will be a real handful for Conference defences this season.
