Lakeside Hammers boss Will Pottinger lauded his charges for a “job well done” after securing their spot in the next round of the Knockout Cup with a two legged win over Ipswich.

The Hammers had already seized control of the tie with a convincing away win at Foxhall on Thursday - 54-35 winners in the first leg.

But they nonetheless maintained their perfect home record with a hard-fought display - culminating in a 49-41 home victory - which left team boss Pottinger delighted.

“It was always going to be a strange evening starting with such a lead, but it was a good night for us,” he said.

“We got the win to keep our strong home form going, and we are obviously pleased to be into the next round.

“The top three all scored double figures which is another positive, so we’ve got plenty of positives to build on and it was a job well done on the night.”

The Hammers did not have things all their own way but dug deep to secure victory on the night.

Top four Nick Morris, Richard Lawson, Adam Ellis and Kyle Newman again powered them to victory, with key additional support from Ben Morley and Zach Wajtknecht.

The Hammers return to action at home to Edinburgh on Saturday, May 19 (start 7:45pm).

Scores: Lakeside Hammers 49: Nick Morris 12, Adam Ellis 11, Richard Lawson 10, Kyle Newman 7+3, Ben Morley 5, Zach Wajtknecht 3+1, Alfie Bowtell 1
