EAST Thurrock United’s end of season struggles continued as Gloucester City ran out 3-1 winners in the National League South.

Rocks were still looking to match their 56 point tally from last season and were playing a team also safely ensconced in mid-table.

Keiran Thomas shot wide for Gloucester in the first five minutes before, after an uneventful 15 minutes, they took the lead.

Jamal Lawrence let rip and despite the best efforts of the visiting defence the ball crossed the line.

The home team were much the better and the advantage was doubled on the half hour.

A corner was worked to Noah Smerdon and he finished from close range.

Sammy Knott, playing in a more advanced position, sent a strike off target when he should perhaps have done better as the away side enjoyed their best spell of the match shortly before half-time.

But they got a goal back early in the second period as Knott pulled one back four minutes after the break – his first goal of the season.

But the game was to be wrapped up by Hayden Turner. The substitute had seen his original effort come back off the crossbar but he was on hand to score from the loose ball.
