RUGBY: Thames Rugby Club fell short in a battle of youth versus experience against Chelmsford 3s.
Thames failed to get off the mark in the 12-0 reverse, with just five points scored in a tough and closely-contested first half.
The second half started badly for Thames, Chelmsford taking advantage of a five metre scrum and the powerful pack pushed their visitors over before converting to make the score line 12-0.
Both teams swapped phases of play although there wasn’t much between the two sides. Thames battled on and tried to get on the scoreboard but couldn’t manage to get themselves on the scoresheet.
Max Clarke did come close when he chased his own kick through but failed to win the foot race and Chelmsford kicked out from their own 22.
Despite the loss, Thames learned a lot from the experience.
Thames are at home next week and are expecting another competitive game against Eton Manor.
