STANFORD-LE-HOPE were the only Thurrock side to complete a match in the Shepherd Neame Essex League after rain decimated the weekend fixture list.

Although Stanford may have wished the rain came after they went down by 46 runs against West Essex in Division Three.

West Essex won the toss and elected to bat first and they scored an impressive total, racking up 256 runs before they were bowled out in the final over.

Orrie Fernandes (2/46), Jack Carter (2/53) and Daryl Woodford (2/60) ended with the best figures.

Stanford lost a number of early wickets in their reply, and looked in trouble at 53/3.

But Duncan Page (56) and Fernandes (24) edged Stanford into the match, although neither could kick on and make big scores.

Matt Higgins hit an unbeaten 41 towards the end of the innings but it wasn’t enough.

Elsewhere, Belhus, Orsett & Thurrock and Horndon-on-the-Hill saw their matches abandoned on a miserable day.
