TAMBESON Eyong believes that Grays Athletic can win the Isthmian North title next season.

Eyong has joined Grays Athletic following his departure from Isthmian Premier League big spenders Billericay Town.

And the experienced defender thinks that Jamie Stuart’s side, who suffered relegation from the Isthmian Premier League last term, are in with a good chance of winning promotion at the first attempt.

Eyong said: “Our squad is looking very good.

“I think that we should win the league.

“But we will take every game as it comes and we know it is important not to concede a lot of goals.”

The move to Parkside will also allow Eyong to link-up with Stuart once again.

Eyong and Stuart were both on the books of Margate before Stuart returned to Grays in 2016.

And Eyong admitted that Stuart played a big part in his move to the club.

“Jamie was very important,” added the former Canvey Island and AFC Hornchurch man.

“Jamie and I get along really well because he is exactly like me.

“Obviously everyone is different, but he gets me and knows how to talk to me and get the best out of me.

“Jamie is very good when it comes to man management.”

Eyong’s departure from Billericay came as something of a surprise, as the defender was still under contract with Glenn Tamplin’s side.

But Eyong says that he was given little choice but to leave the AGP Arena, because of an extra training session being added to the schedule.

The defender confirmed: “I signed for Billericay on a two-year contract, so I was going to be there for another two seasons.

“But they added another training session, on a Monday, that I wasn’t able to make so it was mutually agreed that I would leave the club.

“Jamie wanted me to join Grays last season but I still had a contract at Billericay. But after leaving and coming back from holiday, I decided to join.”
