ORSETT & Thurrock were beaten by 35 runs in a close encounter with Hadleigh & Thundersley in SNEL Division One.

Hadleigh started well at 65-0 off 10 overs, although that run rate was slowed by Paul Bennett and Umaad Sultan.

Hadleigh reached 263-6 off their 50 overs and Orsett were in trouble at 70-4 off 15 overs.

But Mark Pavitt and Nawaz Jan both reached their 50s to bring the team back into contention.

But they couldn’t match the total, as they were bowled out for 228.

In Division Two, Horndon-on-the-Hill slumped to a sixth straight loss, going down by 32 runs against Fives & Heronians.

Fahad Iqbal’s 94 and Ali Raza’s 53 helped Fives reach 317-9 in their 50 overs.

Ryan Madder took 4-47 for Horndon.

Muhammad Asif scored 49, while the tail contributed well but they couldn’t hold out as they were dismissed with 3.9 overs remaining.

In Division Three, Stanford-le-Hope beat Walthamstow by one wicket.

Matt Higgins and Caryl Woodford guided Stanford home with 2.1 overs to spare.
