A CHADWELL St Mary ABC fighter is celebrating gold for England after triumphing in the GB Elite Three Nations.

Nina Hughes was selected to represent her country at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff, Wales, in the 57kg weight category.

The mum-of-two was drawn to box a Welsh champion in the semi-final, winning the bout by a unanimous decision to secure her place in the final on Saturday.

She took on Efiychia Kathopouli, from Scotland, in the final and was again an emphatic winner as she won every round to return to Essex with the gold medal.

And Club Chairperson Sindy Overy and Head Coach Scott Johnston, who travelled to Wales to support Hughes, were delighted with the display.

“We were both extremely proud of Nina’s achievement and overwhelmed by her ability to prepare for such a massive event.

“She only gave birth to her youngest child five months ago!

“Nina is our very own Superwoman and flies the flag for all sporting mums proving you can still live your dream.”
