l RUNDOWN: East Thurrock United can still achieve a top half finish as they gear up for their final away game of the National League South.

With two matches remaining, Rocks are still looking at a top 11 spot, with a place in the top 10 not out of the question.

However, a 4-0 reverse against mid-table rivals Eastbourne Borough on Monday was not what John Coventry had expected, albeit against a good side.

Victory against St Albans tomorrow would move East Thurrock to within a point of the Hertfordshire side come full-time.

The reverse fixture finished 1-1.

The match will be the last away clash with Jay Devereux alongside him as assistant manager (see below). Coventry confirmed he knew who Devereux’s replacement would be, refusing to confirm until the end of the season.

l MANAGER’S VIEW: Rocks boss John Coventry said: “We had two games in 48 hours over the Bank Holiday weekend and that was a big ask. We made full use of our squad and it wasn’t strong enough to compete.

“I have known for a while we need to improve and the obvious thing is the strength and depth. We will look to build a bigger squad and those that want to play here. I have people in mind.

“St Albans will be tough and they have come out the other side of a poor spell recently. (Manager) Ian Allinson (former Arsenal and Colchester United) is very experienced and made some big decisions recently, getting rid of some talented players.

“But hopefully a week’s rest will have done wonders for my players and we will be back to our strongest eleven.”

l TEAM NEWS: Ben Marlow is out for the season.
