TILBURY’S recent poor run continued with this defeat at the hands of in-form Witham Town.
The opening 30 minutes of the game was lacklustre, with the closest effort a weak shot from Nathan Koranteng which was easily saved by Clarke Bogard.
It was not until the 39th minute that a worthwhile effort came in, and it brought the opening goal.
Ryan Charles cut inside and let fly with a fierce shot from 20 yards that sped across goal and into the corner of the net.
This sparked Tilbury into life and two minutes later they were back on level terms.
Emiel Aiken made a fine solo run into the box, where he was upended, and Tony Martin scored from the penalty spot.
With the game now having come to life, the second-half was a much more entertaining affair.
Witham’s Scott Kemp shot over the crossbar, and then sent another wide after a mistake in the Tilbury defence.
Kemp was then denied by a magnificent last ditch save from Bogard, diving backwards to scoop the ball away from the goal-line. But the winning goal was to come in the 70th minute.
Max Bradford hit a low shot from outside the penalty area that found the corner and, although Tilbury fought hard, the Witham defence was organised and held firm to secure the win.
Tilbury: Bogard, Mead, Uade, Pooley, Nightingill, Norton, Aiken, Carlile (Aromolaran 70’), Martin (Salako 70’), Singh (Francis 75’), Melaugh
