EAST Thurrock United edged closer to 50 points for the season with a narrow victory over mid-table Oxford City.
Rocks were assured of their place in the division, and it was two loan men which handed John Coventry’s team the points - Femi Akinwande and Scott Heard on target.
The first half was largely a non-event, with Akinwande proving wasteful as he blasted over and out of the ground when well placed.
Oxford’s best chance came through Scott Davies but home goalkeeper Lukas Lidakevicius proved a match for the strike, parrying the ball to safety.
The second half was a more feisty affair, with Akinwande opening the scoring on 54 minutes.
A mistake from away stopper Craig Hill saw the striker rob him of possession and finish with ease.
Ten minutes from time it was 2-0 thanks to Heard.
Tom Wraight did brilliantly to send the ball back to the Dagenham & Redbridge loanee and he smashed the ball home.
But 60 seconds later the lead was halved.
Sam Kawaja made his way into the box and finished well past Lidakevicius.
But Rocks were able to hold on for the points.
East Thurrock: Lidakevicius, Sammons, Peddie, Burns, Ekpiteta, Wood (Craddock 70’), Harris, Marlow, Akinwande, Heard, Wraight
