EAST Thurrock United were unable to match on-form Welling United as they went down 2-0 in Kent.

Rocks had been searching for reinforcements ahead of the match due to a number of injuries, although they had the best early chance.

Tom Wraight was clean through only for Chris Lewington to get down bravely to keep it goalless.

But Welling hit back well. Adam Coombes struck the underside of the crossbar before Harry Crawford angled a drive inches past the post of Lukas Lidakevicius.

Rocks handed a debut to Dagenham & Redbridge loanee Scott Heard and the attacker was proving to be a nuisance early on, albeit Rocks didn't create too many clear-cut chances.

However, despite Welling having the better of the chances, there was no difference between the two at the half-time interval.

But Welling did get the opener on the hour, with a loose ball bundled in by Coombes from close range.

Lidakevicius made another fine save but could do nothing to prevent Dan Walker from making it 2-0.

The attacker fired home emphatically five minutes from time to round off a very good day for the Kent outfit, who ease their relegation concerns.

Rocks continue to search for the nine points boss John Coventry believes will keep them in the division.
