THURROCK Harriers’ athletes excelled as they secured a number of impressive results at the London Games last weekend.

Held at Lee Valley, there were a host of individual bests at the London Indoor Games.

Gbenga Adewole came fourth in the under-15 boys shot put with a personal best of 5.71m, while in the 60m he obtained another PB with a time of 9.25s and a PB in the 200m with 31.0s.

Funmi Adewole did brilliantly to secure a season’s best in the long jump with 3.87m and another in the 60m with 8.79s.

Tolani Odumosu obtained a new PB (8.86s) in the under-17 women’s 60m race.

Kendrea Nwaelene gained a SB in the 60m race with a time of 8.05s and came fourth in the long jump with a SB jump of 5.17m.

Lola Omowanile placed second in the under-17 long jump with a PB of 4.78m, and also ran a SB 8.37s in the 60m.

Jessica Whitbread came fourth in the under-17 women’s triple jump with 10.12m and jumped 4.87m in the long jump.

Rhea Stavri gained two SBs on the day, throwing 8.25m in the shot and jumping 8.28m in the triple jump.

Funminyi Olajide ran a SB in the 60m in a time of 8.22s.

Under-17 men’s athlete Nathanael Adeniran jumped a PB of 1.75m in the high jump.

There were also some brilliant results at the Essex Schools Cross-Country Championships held at Hilly Fields in Colchester.

Despite several late withdrawals from some prominent athletes, the Harriers competed well.

The best effort came from Hayley Instance, second in the Junior Girls race.

Instance has improved all winter following some excellent displays and can now look forward to lining up for the East Region’s mini-marathon team at the London event in April.

Finnlay Lowe pulled out a great performance in the Junior Boys event, winning his county school’s vest by finishing sixth.

In the same race, Dylan Harrod was 32nd.

In the Intermediate boys event Sarab Dhillon led home the borough’s only complete team. He was 22nd, just in front of Ben Prior (25th). Charlie Power was 35th, Reece Scott 49th, Henri Willett 54th and George Wheatley 55th as the team ended in fifth.

In the junior girls race Keira Scott, a former Harrier, was eighth, and Demi Eves was 11th.

The consistent Lucie Ball was 27th in the Inter Girls event with Amy Raven 35th.

Under-15 boys athlete Jakub Kowalski achieved two PBs on Sunday, running the 60m in 8.80s and the 200m in 29.8s.

Under-15 girl Ruby Bridger ran a fantastic race in the 60m hurdles, gaining a PB time of 9.23s. She also threw a SB 8.50m in the shot and jumped a new PB of 5.03m in the long jump.

Sola Taiwo gained SBs in both her events running the 60m hurdles in 9.75m and jumping 4.68m in the long jump.

Fellow under-15 Leisha Hunt had a busy day, throwing 8.50m in the shot and gaining SBs in all her events, running the 200m in 28.12s, the 300m in 45.16m, and jumping 4.78m in the long jump.
