THE 25th Anniversary of the legendary Firecracker Banger event brought action galore at Arena Essex on Sunday.

German racer Mike Sperlich brought over an unusual Opel Diplomat Ambulance, while Allan Trickett’s Gold Cadillac, Micky Turner’s enormous Lincoln Town Car, Danny Everett’s Rolls Royce and Paul Foreman’s Daimler XJ40 Limo were all worthy of mention.

One of the crashes of the day came in heat one when Micky Turner reversed his limo off the inner kerbs and was almost cut in half by a savage shot from Michael Pidgeley.

Heat two was restarted after a serios crunch involving Jason Mortimer but, at the restart, Frankie Whitelock was the victim of a massive head on from James Hutchins, who was in turn demolished by a huge hit from Tom Filmer. Unlimited Banger World Champion Jack Overy booked his place in the Firecracker final with victory.

Danny Green won the consolation event for non-qualifiers.

The Firecracker final saw Chris Trickett race away to take the win as Andrew Jones spun Overy out on the last corner to take the runners up spot. Jason Jackson completed the podium.

With the conditions taking their toll the Destruction Derby was poorly subscribed, and the showdown between Dave Bull and Allan Trickett was rather one sided with Bull’s Granada no match for Trickett’s Cadillac, the latter taking the prize money.

Reliant Robins were the support act one again with father and son Ian and Steve Bolton sharing the heats, with Ian surviving several kamikaze attacks to take the final too. Daniel Douglas won the all-comers race.

A good turnout of Stock Cars completed the action with heat wins for Dave Imber and Luke Ashton-Jones, the latter taking his first win at Arena Essex.

Dave Palmer came out on top of a lively battle for the win.
