GRAYS Athletic were edged out by fellow strugglers Leatherhead as they remain rock bottom of the Ryman Premier League.

Blues were looking to lift themselves from the bottom of the standings, and would have fancied their chances against a team only two points better off so far.

Blues were without key striking duo Adeyinka Cole and L’heureux Menga and they looked toothless up front for much of the opening stages.

It was the visitors that took the lead midway through the half and it was a well worked goal, with defender Ty Smith netting from close range.

But Grays were back on level terms before the half was out. Luke Campbell scored to make it 1-1 at the break.

The winner came four minutes into the second-half, with Rash Kamara striking the winner.

Thurrock and Maldon & Tiptree cancelled each other out in a stalemate.

Fleet and Maldon cancelled each other out in the first-half, although the home side did look the more likely.

Maldon were well smothered by the home side, although Fleet were lacking the cutting edge after Ross Wall departed for AFC Hornchurch.

And it ended 0-0, although Thurrock needed a fine save from their goalkeeper in the closing exchanges to keep the scores goalless.

Tilbury made the long trip to Norwich United and they impressed in Norfolk, winning 2-1.

The Dockers took a 14th minute lead through Neil Richmond and it was the same man who found the net just after the hour mark.

Tim Henery pulled one back minutes later as Norwich showed the match was far from over but Tilbury held on.

Terry Spillane secure a first win as manager of Aveley as they earned a fine 1-0 win at Bowers & Pitsea.

Bowers came out of the traps very quickly and could have taken the lead inside the first five minutes. Recent acquisition Callum Leahy found space in the penalty area but his header could only crash off the frame of the goal.

But Aveley took the lead midway through the half. The ball was crossed into Jordan Peart and he headed home well.

Ben Sartain and Scott Pethers shot off target as Bowers looked to draw level.

But it remained 1-0 at half-time. Early in the second-half, recent acquisition Lewis Greene was forced into making an excellent save to keep Bowers in the match.

Substitute Alfie Hilton was causing problems after his introduction, and he fed Pethers who had advanced into an attacking position. But his strike was wild and off target.

Brad Warner was starved of service for much of the afternoon although he almost combined with fellow former Fleet man Lewis Clark late on, but the free-kick was saved.
