EARLY and late goals in the second-half were enough for Tonbridge Angels as they high-flyers edged out a bullish Grays Athletic.

Nathan Elder’s header three minutes after half-time and a late second from Luke Blewden were the difference as Angels continue to show they mean business this season.

Grays had recorded their first home victory of the season against Harlow Town in the week, to lift the spirits around the strugglers.

But Tonbridge started well, with Elder proving a handful for the two Grays centre-halves.

Former Blues man Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson was causing problems down the flank but young goalkeeper Callum Thomas was dealing with any threat well.

But he was helpless to prevent the opener just three minutes into the second-half. It was Elder that got it and it was a trademark goal.

A cross was sent in by Ugo Udoji and the forward powered a header beyond Thomas and into the top corner.

A host of substitutions followed as the game became slightly disjointed, with Grays substitute David Fallah returning to the fold after a spell out.

And the result was made safe in injury time as substitute Blewden hammered home, after Thomas could only tip Miles’ header onto the post.
