AVELEY continued their impressive start to the season with a dramatic late win over Great Wakering Rovers.

The Millers started well, with Arian Retkoceri denied by a flying save from goalkeeper Charlie Huntley, while Leon Gordon came close up the other end.

Sherwin Stanley and Taylor Tombides were then denied by the Wakering stopper but he was helpless to prevent the opener.

Retkoceri unleashed from 25 yards after 16 minutes to open the scoring.

George Woodward was then kept out but it was Aveley that were on top in the first period.

A single goal in it at the break, Tombides and Abs Seymour looked to extend that advantage after the break before the second goal did come.

Substitute Michael Pindy timed his run perfectly to race onto a ball and beat Huntley with 15 minutes remaining.

But out of nothing Wakering were back in it when Kyle Asante, on just his second appearance for the club, got the ball past Lamar Johnson.

Nick Hilder headed wide and with five minutes to go Wakering were level.

Tommy Spillane headed in off to bar to draw the visitors level.

But the drama wasn't yet over. Stanley’s strike was blocked by the hand of John Easterford who was sent off in the final minute.

And Billy Coyne scored the resultant penalty to complete an exciting game.
