A LOCAL racer is heading to the Gymkhana GRiD Finals in Athens after he excelled at a recent motocross meeting in Denmark.

Danny Cross, racing for Grays company Vortex Exhausts, was in fine fettle in Billund, in Denmark where he drove his Nissan 200 S14 superbly around the high-speed precision driving course – in which you need to complete a number of drifts, figure 8s, donuts and slaloms.

It wasn’t quite such a happy ending for his wife Danielle, who was knocked out in the first round.

During Saturday’s practice session, Danny set the bar high by laying down a time 19.8 seconds, and tensions were high as he lined up to race against Monster Energy Sponsored driver Rick Van Goethem. Danny stormed the course and finished with a time of 19.9 seconds.

The final race of the day and the chance to compete in the Finals in Athens came down to Danny and Martin Hjermitslev.

Hjermitslev had produced the second fastest times all weekend, but Danny had the Vortex Raceflo system power behind him, and took the win.

Danny has competed in Gymkhana Grid World finals once before, in 2015, coming a close second to Luke Woodham who is sponsored by Monster Energy.

But, with the Vortex Raceflo power behind him this time around, Danny has a definite advantage to put him in a strong position ahead of the Gymkhana GRiD World Finals.
