GRAYS Athletic were comfortably beaten in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup as they went down 4-1 to Leiston.

Although a heavy defeat, Grays had the best of the first-half and can consider themselves unfortunate against the Suffolk side.

Grays actually took the lead in the tie, with David Fallah putting Blues in front after 19 minutes.

Jack Ainsley pulled Leiston back into contention with a leveller seven minutes before half-time, although Blues were impressive and created a number of chances.

The second-half belonged to Leiston, with Byron Lawrence netting just seconds after kick-off, and when Matt Blake made it 3-1 five minutes later things were looking grim for the visitors.

Gareth Heath added a fourth 10 minutes from time to send Leiston into the next round.

It was disappointment for Tilbury as they were defeated 2-1 by Felixstowe & Walton.

It all started so well for Gary Henty and his team when Kurt Smith netted after just seven minutes.

But 10 minutes later it was all square, when Stuart Ainslie levelled for the hosts.

The winner came on the hour mark as Miles Powell helped the Eastern Counties Premier League side through.

In the Ryman North, a hat-trick from Thurrock's Charlie Stimson sent Great Wakering packing as they won 5-0.

Thurrock had the better of the opening spell and took the lead after just five minutes. A cross was sent to the near post, with Stimson’s flick initially kept out by the goalkeeper.

But John Easterford’s clearance on the goal-line fell straight to the feet of Stimson and he took a touch before finishing smartly into the near corner.

Thurrock nearly doubled their lead but Matt Belcher made a stunning save as Wakering clung on, with Stimson denied at the last by Tommy Spillane’s challenge and Joe Christou’s strike going over the crossbar.

Stimson added his second after 20 minutes, after the initial corner from Belcher’s save was cleared away. Rokas Janillonis recycled the ball towards the packed penalty area, and Stimson powered a header past Belcher.

Stimson completed his hat trick on the hour-mark. Ronnie Winn flashed the ball across the face of the box and although Belcher got a hand to it, the ball spun out of the keeper’s reach with Stimson tapping home.

Glenn Poole added a fourth with 10 minutes remaining as his low drive from 25 yards found the bottom corner.

Substitute and former Wakering striker Jake Gordon added a fifth for the hosts right on full-time, running through after a defensive slip. And although his initial effort was parried he dispatched the rebound to round off a great day for Fleet.

Aveley were 2-1 winners against Wroxham in the Ryman North.

Both sides started well, and it was Aveley that made the most of their early chances with Sherwin Stanley scoring the opener.

The forward blasted home from 16 yards and the Millers had further chances to extend their advantage, with Mike Finneran coming close.

Stanley added a second eight minutes before the break, with Abs Seymour forcing a fine save before the striker tapped home from the rebound.

Jordan Rocastle pulled one back but Aveley held on for the points.
