SOUTH Ockendon fighter George O'Leary is celebrating another win in his fledgling career after winning the vacant EBA light heavy weight British title.
On Saturday, July 29 at the Grays Civic Hall, O’Leary, 22 saw off the challenge of Surrey’s Lawrence Brown.
It was the most impressive of his four wins to date, as his taller opponents stood at a formidable 6ft 6in.
O'Leary found Brown’s height a little tricky at first but managed to take control of the fight and get two standing counts on Brown and, over six rounds, got a unanimous decision.
O'Leary's new sponsors Grayers Graphics, JM Sealant Contracts Ltd, Sana Electrical Ltd and Warton Freight Services were all there to support the fighter and O’Leary said he was looking forward to his next fight, on Saturday, October 1.
“I would like to thank my team, fans and sponsors for all their help and support,” said O'Leary, who is hoping to turn professional by the end of the year. “It was great to add the British title to my English and five national title belts.”
