Belhus 1st 256 all out

Leigh 1st 151 all out

BELHUS’ first team made amends for last week’s reverse by coasting to a 105-run home win by a similar margin at North Stifford on Saturday.

Skipper Danny Joyce led the way with a superb century.

He scored 109 until he was caught by Iain McDonald off the bowling of Alex Camp for 109, having faced 116 deliveries.

Liam Wilson and Michael Fogg played strong supporting roles for Belhus with 46 and 34 respectively as Belhus posted 256 all out.

Leigh’s opening bowler Daniel Cocking collected 3-41 from his maximum allotment of ten overs while Joe Sexton and Camp picked up two wickets each.

McDonald then scored a patient 56 before being trapped lbw by Daniel Dreher (3-43). Joe Sexton (10), Camp (16) and Mark Sexton (49no) were the only other Leigh batsmen into double figures before they were bowled out for 151.

Supporting Dreher with the ball for Belhus were Connor Day, 3-43 from ten overs while Gary Sanderson and Martin Guilbert shared four wickets between them.

The following day, Belhus suffered a nine-wicket defeat at the hands of Great and Little Warley in the premier division of the Essex Sunday League.

Leigh-on-Sea 2nd 263-6

Belhus 2nd 168 all out

Zak Wilson impressed on his second 11 league debut by removing the top three Leigh batsmen at Belfairs Park and then followed that up by becoming his team’s third highest scorer with 22 runs to his name.

Home openers Joe Hunter and Liam Bull scored 32 and 62 respectively until they fell to Wilson, while Connor Merron’s 72-run knock was ended when Wilson bowled him.

Imran Mohammed picked up 2-31 from nine overs which included three maidens, while Wilson finished with 3-47 from eight overs.

After tea, seven Belhus batsmen, from number three down to number nine, reached double figures after the failure of both openers who scored only eight runs between them.

Skipper John Lewis top-scored with 31, while number eight Imran Mohammed hit 26.

Belhus will rue the fact that none of the seven went on to capitalise on their start, as Aymer Raza proved to be the pick of the home attack with 4-39 from nine overs, while John Elliott claimed 3-21 from eight overs.

Orsett & Thr 4th 149-9

Belhus 3rd 114 all out

Dropped catches cost Belhus dear as the home side’s tail took full advantage at Orsett on Saturday, with number nine batsman Michael Parker undefeated on 28 to add to Stuart Warren’s 30 earlier in the piece.

The visitors’ opening bowler Alan Maidment was his usual reliable self; three wickets for 43 runs including four maidens were the fruits of his 14-over labour. Jack Plane and Ryan Prendergast picked up two wickets each.

After the break Russ Blackburn hit a valued 53 but in truth the Belhus batting mis-fired as only three others reached double figures, being Eathan Morris with 18, Plane 11 and Liam Waters who reached 15.

For Orsett, Dean Henry bagged 3-16 from his five overs, with the ball, Tom Redman collected 2-26 from eight overs while Warren mopped up the tail with two wickets for just one run from three overs.

Oakfield Parks 4th 149-7

Belhus 4th 64-8

Oakfield Parkonians sent down a relatively strong side to Ockendon Recreation Ground on Saturday yet Belhus escaped with a draw - albeit a dull one.

Maran Mariyathas top-scored for the visitors with an undefeated 44 with home skipper John Wilson bagging 4-32 from a 14-over spell which included two maidens.

Belhus survived for 41 overs but scored only 64 in that time as only Joshua Clarke and Keith Dhannie reached double figures with 15 runs each.

Pick of the Old Boys’ bowlers were opener Nav Kalley, 3-18, and Karthegan Thavenesan with two wickets for just nine runs from three overs.
