GRAYS boxer Tey Lynn-Jones says he is readying for a step up in class when he does battle with Christian Hoskin Gomez at Civic Hall next weekend.

Lynn-Jones, 22, has won the first two fights of his career, defeating Sonny Whiting and Scott Hillman on points earlier this year.

However, Spanish-born Gomez has fought four times as many bouts as either of Lynn-Jones’ previous opponents and, although he has lost 13 of his 20 fights each of those came down to a judges decision.

And Lynn-Jones, who used to box at Basildon’s Holland Park ABC, says he expects to go the distance when the two come face-to-face at the Grays venue on Friday, July 1.

“This is going to be a hard one,” said middleweight fighter Lynn-Jones. “He is about 35 places above me in the Box Rec rankings but I am so determined to get that win. He is a tough opponent and has never been stopped in 20 fights so I expect it to go the full six rounds.

“He has boxed on a few Box Nation bills so I have been able to watch his fights so I know what to expect. He is a forward-thinking fighter and is aggressive.

“But I want to push on and win this fight so I need to make sure I do the business.”

More than 200 supporters attended Lynn-Jones’ debut win, with celebrities including footballer Glen Johnson and promoter Kirk Norcross supporting him.

Lynn-Jones will weigh in at the Sugar Hut the day before the fight, and is at the fighting weight of 11st 10lbs already.

And he says he will need to be patient to get the better of the more experienced fighter.

“I always prepare as though the fight will go the distance and a stoppage would be a bonus,” he said.

“I have learned to be more patient in the ring which I think is important. I am focusing on my fighting and feel in a good place heading into this fight.”
