A NUMBER of Thurrock Harriers took to the field at the Essex Schools Combined Events Championships last week, with several impressive performances.

Held at Brentwood on Wednesday May 25, five young Athletes from Harriers represented their schools, with Theo Adesina, Daniel Ogutuga, Funminiyi Olajide, Sola Taiwo and Ruby Bridger in action.

Theo (Under-15 boys) was representing Grays’ William Edwards School and he won gold with a personal best total points tally of 2899, which ranks him first in the UK.

He also came first in 11.50s (PB) in the 80m hurdles, which also ranks him joint first in UK for his age group, as he also placed first in the high jump with a superb PB of 1.78m.

His other results were 6.16m in the long jump, 9.80m in the shot put and 2.19s in the 800m.

Daniel (Under-15 boys) represented Ockendon Academy and came eighth overall, gaining a PB in the 80m hurdles in 14.00s. His other results were 8.45m in the shot put, 1.48m in the high jump, 5.28m in the long jump and 2.49s in the 800m.

Funminiyi (Under-15 girls) also represented William Edwards and came fifth overall with a total points tally of 2692 (PB).

She also gained a PB in the high jump with 1.60m and in the 800m in 3.03s.

Her other results were 13.7s in the 75m hurdles (season’s best), while she placed first in the long jump with a 5.16m jump and second in the shot put with a 9.84m throw.

Sola (Under-15 girls), also of William Edwards School, came eighth overall earning a PB total points tally of 2541.

She gained a PB in the long jump with 4.77m, and her other results were 12.4s in the 75m hurdles, 1.39m in the high jump, 7.06m in the shot put and 2.40s in the 800m.

Ruby (Under-15 girls) was representing Grays’ Hathaway Academy and came 10th with PB total points tally of 2377.

Ruby also secured a PB in the long jump with 4.44m and a high jump PB of 1.42m.

Her other results were 12.00s in the 75m hurdles, 7.17m in the shot put and 2.55s in the 800m.
