l Lined up in a 4-2-2 formation

GK – Dean Gerken: Wasn't sure about him when I first saw him in the youth team but he worked very hard and turned himself into a very good keeper who's played regularly in the championship.

RB – Karl Duguid: Someone who could play anywhere but I thought his best position was at right-back. A serious knee injury early in his career stopped him playing higher. A great character in the dressing room and I'm looking forward to seeing him in a few weeks now he's at Needham Market.

LB – Matt Lockwood: A great attacking left-back who played behind me in our promotion season. If he cared as much about football as he did golf he would have played a lot higher.

CB – Rio Ferdinand: I first met Rio aged about 11 and at age 14 he couldn't get into school of excellence team. But at 16 he just took off and never looked back, becoming one of the best centre back's in the world.

CB - John Mackie: Probably wasn't as good a centre-back as his Orient partner but but I'm sure Gab Zakuani would understand why I've gone for Mackie. A leader of men who dragged us to promotion in the last month of the season. Keeping three internationals out of the team shows how highly I think of him.

RM – Craig Fagan: A very angry man who could play up front or on the wing and went on to play for two different teams in the Premier League showing how much quality he had. 7 CM – Frank Lampard: The hardest working footballer I've ever seen and deserved everything he went on to achieve. An absolute gentleman and the cleverest footballer about.

CM – Michael Carrick: Got to play with him for a couple of seasons in the reserves and you could tell even at that young age he would be a player. The most balanced footballer I've seen.

LM – Lee Hodges: The biggest compliment I can pay Hodge is he was the star of our youth team considering the company. Would have definitely played higher if he didn't have 12 knee operations before the age of 25 and being 3ft 6in didn't help either.

CF – Lomana LuaLua: A box of tricks who could produce anything at any time. Got a great move to Newcastle and went on to play in top leagues around the world.

CF – Sam Higgins: Might shock a few people to see him but it tells you how highly I rate him and if people looked at what he can do rather than what he doesn't they would realise how good he is. Technically up there with any player I've come across and if he wasn't such a weirdo he would be scoring in the Football League.
