Burgess Hill Town 1-2 Grays Athletic

From Leylands Park

Ryman Premier League

GRAYS Athletic made it back-to-back away wins as they beat newly-promoted Burgess Hill Town to continue their unbeaten start to the season.

Goals from Dumebi Dumaka and Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson saw Mark Bentley’s men claim the points, and they were good value for it as they came racing out the blocks.

Joao Carlos burst forward in the opening stages, and went down in the box under pressure from a defender. Blues screamed for a penalty, but the referee was unmoved.

Scott Kirkwood was denied by Lamar Johnson between the posts for Grays, and the away side broke and scored. Dumaka, fresh from two goals in midweek, bore down on goal from the left and eased the ball home.

Both sides had half chances to find the net, but failed to do so. The next clear-cut chance came after the break, and it was a goal.

Fortnam-Tomlinson got the goal and that looked to be that, only for the final few minutes to be made interesting when Chris Smith scores for Town.

Johnson was beaten by Pat Harding’s effort, only for the post to keep the ball out. But Smith was in the right place at the right time to reduce arrears.
