KHAI Riley-La Borde is gunning for a medal at the European Under-23 Championships in Estonia this weekend.

The 19-year-old 110m hurdler will be representing Great Britain for the third summer in a row.

And, after getting a taste of major competitions at the European Under-20 Championships and the World Junior Championships, Riley La-Borde says now is the time to step up his game.

“At the previous championships my aim was just to make the team, but this time I want to win a medal,” said Riley La-Borde from Purfleet.

“I know what to expect at these championships. I go there ranked fourth in Europe and I want to win a medal.”

Riley La-Borde warmed up for the event by making the final at his first senior British Championships at the weekend.

But the final didn’t go to plan for the ex-Palmer’s College student who clattered one too many hurdles and trailed in eighth.

“I’m hoping that I’ve got that out of my system ahead of the Euros,” he said. “I was nervous because it was my first senior championships and hit a hurdle early. I know now that I’ve got to keep on pushing on whatever hurdle I hit and whatever situation I’m in and not let it affect me.

“Hopefully I’ve learnt my lesson.”
