Aveley 3-1 Great Wakering Rovers

From Mill Field

Ryman One North

AVELEY ended their season with a 3-1 win over Essex neighbours Great Wakering Rovers, thanks to a brace from Liam Nash.

Nash enjoyed a spell at Burroughs Park earlier in the season after failing to make an impact at Billericay Town and has enjoyed a renaissance at Aveley.

He scored two goals against Dan Trenkel’s men, although the first came midway through the first half as Aryan Retkoceri scored his second goal in consecutive matches, with a well-taken finish for the Millers.

Rovers secured their safety several weeks ago and came into the match looking to end a fine first season back in the Ryman One North.

Aveley meanwhile were destined for a mid-table finish, in a season that manager Justin Gardner described as ‘not too bad’ on social media.

However, despite taking the lead, Rovers drew level when Stuart Hepburn got his name on the score-sheet, heading past James Marrable from a free-kick after 35 minutes.

Nash grabbed his first on the stroke of half-time, before finishing the game with 13 minutes remaining – tapping home after Adam Seal had denied the hosts originally.

The striker missed a chance to grab a hat-trick against his former club when he missed from the penalty spot.

Aveley end the season in ninth.
