Grays Athletic 0–0 Hendon
From Mill Field
Ryman Premier League
GRAYS Athletic head into the final day of the season in with a chance of securing the fifth and final play-off place after a 0-0 draw with Hendon.
Following last week’s thrilling 3-2 Ryman League Cup final defeat at the hands of the same opposition, Mark Bentley’s men were gunning for revenge in the league encounter, with Hendon already secured of their play-off spot.
However, this game wont live long in the memory, with neither side able to create a clear-cut opening at Mill Field.
Kevin Maclaren struck the first effort on target shortly before the interval for the visitors but Conor Gough had it covered in goal.
Gough was returning in place of the absent Lamar Johnson, who was at fault for Hendon’s first goal in the cup final last Wednesday.
The second –half saw neither side create a clear-cut opportunity, with the game more notable for the number of yellow cards rather than its efforts on goal.
Grays’ Jey Siva saw a free-kick tipped over by Hendon stopper Ben McNamara, with Sean Cronin heading wide moments later.
It was the Grays centre-back who came closest again, having scored in the Ryman League Cup defeat. His header was destined for the corner until Maclaren cleared from underneath his own crossbar.
Top scorer Dumebi Dumaka struck over late on but it wasn’t to be.
Should Grays secure that spot they will face another match against the Greens, in the play-off semi-final come the final day of the month.
Grays Athletic: Gough, Leader, Siva, Cronin, Parry, Stevens, Davidson, Beaney, Dumaka, Fortnam-Tomlinson, Carlos
