THURROCK Harriers’ young starlet William Adeyeye is the English indoor under-15 multi-event champion.

Adeyeye won the gold medal at Sheffield and on his way to victory set a 60m hurdle personal best of 8.44s, which is the sixth fastest ever by an under-15 athlete in the UK.

Last week the Gazette said Adeyeye finished second in Sheffield which was correct. But as the winner was a Scottish athlete, Adeyeye won the English gold medal. We are happy to correct this.

Elsewhere in athletics this week, a number of Thurrock Harriers competed in the Brentwood half-marathon.

Keith Willett, who has been in the sport for less than two years, can be very pleased with his 62nd place with a time of 84m13s.

John Russell was 94th in 87m52s with Jason Syrett just behind in 88m01s. Older Thurrock Harriers will remember Jamie Seamark, now living in Norfolk, who was 10th with 76m40s while Grays’ Dennis Cross, was 16th in 78m09s.
