BUOYED by a morale-boosting win last time out, Thurrock men’s first team began their Eastern Division Three South East match against Redbridge & Ilford in confident mood.

But the good feeling didn’t last long as the visitors proved too hot to handle.

T’s defensive unit of Tommy Ing, Mike Hewing and Andy Sargeant were working over-time to keep their visitors at bay but could do nothing as two quick-fire strikes put Redbridge 2-0 up.

A converted penalty corner then put the visitors 3-0 up at the break but the T’s were not dispirited and started the second half with a goal when Ash Snell coolly slotted home at the back post.

But any chance of a fightback was washed away when the visitors scored a simple goal following a mistake by Andy Gaut.

The man of the match award went to Ethan Pinion for his tireless work in midfield.

In division seven south east, Thurrock men’s second team went down to a 1-0 loss at Colchester.

A number of young third team players made their second team debuts in this encounter and didn’t look out of place.

Thurrock though lacked a goalscorer to convert the chances they created.

Colchester did have the better of the play, but stand-in goalkeeper Dave Leeks had an outstanding game and was clearly Thurrock’s man of the match but could do nothing to keep out Colchester’s winner.

The ladies first team went down 2-1 to promotion-chasing Holcombe II.

Getting anything from the game was always going to be a tough ask, but T’s did themselves proud, putting in their best defensive performance of the season.

Notable performances came from the four members of defence: Ali Hadley, Sally Ellis, Nikhol Chapman and Emily Wynne, while they got an excellent goal through Leah Purser.

The ladies’ third team were unlucky to lose 1-0 to Old Southendians.

Becky Grant and Paige Green both went close on a number of occasions for Thurrock while Katie Lawrence was deservedly named as player of the match for her endless running and supportive play.

Ellie Harvey put in a fine performance at the back with some strong hitting clearances.
