STANFORD completed the league double over Thames with a 20-5 win on the road.

It was Thames who had the brightest moment of the first half when they crossed the Stanford try line after just nine minutes.

The two sides then cancelled each other out for the remainder of the half with Thames 5-0 up.

Stanford started their comeback in the second half when Calum Reid scored an excellent drop goal.

With the visitors now playing the better rugby, it was no surprise when Liam Morley powered and spun his way through to the Thames line in a well worked try. Reid had no trouble adding the extra points.

With 10 minutes remaining, Stanford set up a good rolling maul.

As the ball broke clear it was held just long enough for a charging Sam Herbert to dart in and score the second try for Stanford.

The moves were coming thick and fast but the finishing touch was letting Stanford down. After several attempts Stanford managed to move the ball wide and Matthew Greenhill crossed the line to close the game out with a winning score 20-5.

* Stanford’s women’s team, the Sirens were comprehensive 41-7 winners over Medway.

Stephanie McIntosh sprinted home to give Stanford their first try, with the extras added by Amber Patience.

Sarah Bebbington then ploughed through midfield to double the score. Again Patience added the extras.

McIntosh got her second of the game after good work from Kirsty Moore and Katrina Richardson.

Medway continued to battle hard and got a try and conversion of their own before normal service resumed with Bebbington scoring two tries in quick succession to make it 31-7 at the break.

The scoring was not as frequent in the second half as the weather worsened.

Bebbington crashed over from 15 yards and another penalty towards the end of the game saw a line out on the opposition’s five-metre line.

Davies plucked the ball from the heavens, fed down to the maul and Chegwidden powered over to seal the result.

* Stanford’s under-15 side visited Cheshunt and were beaten 25-10.

Jack Pidgeon, normally a forward but playing on the wing, scored Stanford’s first try and Zack Burdett went over to make it 10-10 at half time.

But Cheshunt proved too strong in the second period, scoring three tries without reply.

* Stanford’s under-14 side recorded an impressive 31-12 win over Ipswich.

George Whally scored two tries while Joe Moran, Teddy Moss and Callum Pluck all scored a try each as Stanford proved too strong.

Tom Giroud added two conversions while Callum Pluck kicked another one.
