THURROCK men’s first team received a blow in their bid to avoid the drop from Eastern league division three south east after they were thumped 6-1 at Wapping III.

The visitors felt aggrieved by a decision that went against them for the opening goal and then let their focus slip to trail 4-0 at half time.

Captain Tom Ing came closest to netting for Thurrock when his flick from a short corner hit the post.

A blow to the head for Julian Thake saw T’s have to make do with 10 players for 15 minutes while he received treatment.

And Wapping capitalised to take the score to 5-0.

Jeff West took a bit of dignity back by slotting home a short corner.

The final goal came from a Wapping short corner and a lack of communication between the post man and keeper.

The men’s second team had a better time of it, thrashing Phoenix III 5-0 in division seven south east.

Despite not being at their best in the first half, a brace from Olu Akinwande set them on their way.

Two rare goals from Dave Everett and a first second team goal of the season from Ryan Jones, set up by Akinwande, sealed the scoreline.

Thurrock’s third team were on the wrong end of a 12-1 scoreline against Plashet, the runaway leaders of division eight south east.

The only two highlights for Thurrock were a saved penalty from keeper Danny Hick and a goal from Bradley Rust.

The ladies first team got a much-needed 3-1 win against Gore Court in Eastern division two south east.

It was not the best performance from T’s but they did what was needed to win all the points.

Alison Hadley was in top form in goal for Thurrock, while superb goals from Nichol Chapman, Leah Purser and Katie Jacks did the damage at the other end.

Special mentions must go to Sally Appleton and her unmatchable speed upfront, and Emily Wynne for taking several for the team.

The ladies second team drew 2-2 against a strong Colne side while the thirds had a great result, beating second-in-the-league Witham 3-0.

Becky Grant scored two goals with Jade Franklin adding the other.
