THURROCK Harriers youngster William Adeyeye a smashed championship record at the Eastern and Essex Indoor Championships at Lee Valley.

William Edwards pupil Adeyeye not only re-wrote the record books for the under-15 boys 60m hurdles, but his time of 8.57s was also the fastest in the country this year.

Not content with a gold in just the hurdles, Adeyeye also picked up a gold in the shot-put (12.83m). Adeyeye also won a silver medal in the 60m (7.40s).

Behind Adeyeye in third place in the 60m hurdles was his team-mate Theo Adesina, who also came back from Lee Valley with a clutch of medals.

As well as his bronze in the hurdles (9.65s), Adesina was also third (but second Essex athlete) in the high jump with a PB of 1.60m.

But his best performance of the day came in the long jump where he set a best of 5.72m to win the competition.

Elsewhere, Harriers youngster Sola Tawio was third (second Essex) in the 60m hurdles (10.58s PB).

Ruby Bridger was another one of the younger brigade to shine. She won gold in the under-13 girls shot (6.78m PB) and also competed in the 60m hurdles (10.62s) and long jump (2.96m).

At the other end of the age scale, Natalie Lebeau won an Essex gold, silver and bronze.

She took gold in the senior women’s long jump (5.06m), silver in the high jump (1.55m) and bronze in the 200m (27.43s).

Lucy Howes won Essex bronze in the senior women’s high jump (1.50m), Sue Lawrence won Essex gold in the shot (10.55m) and Ben Gibbs county bronze in the senior men’s 60m (7.23s).

Monet Jervier won an Essex bronze medal in the under-15 girls shot (9.49m) and set a PB of 10.58s in the 60m hurdles.

The final Harriers medallist was Kendre Nwaelene whose time of 26.49s in the under-15 girls 200m was enough to win her Essex bronze. She also got a PB in the 60m (8.11s).

Other Harriers results: Leon Wheeler (U15B 800m 2m27.86s PB), Beth James (U20W long jump 4.51m, triple jump 9.39m), Seniz Jessener (U17W 60mh 10.01s PB, shot 7.80m), Evie Croom, U15G 60m 8.84s PB, long jump 3.94m PB), Jessica Whitbread, U15G 60m 10.35s PB, long jump 4.37m).

l At the British Cross-Challenge cross-country in Milton Keynes, two of Thurrock Harriers younger members had excellent runs.

In the under-13 girls race, Hayley Instance finished fifth in a top-class field while Harry Parker was seventh in the under-13 boys competition.

Amber Pullinger, meanwhile, has been chosen to represent Essex Schools in the English Schools Cross-Country Championships in Blackburn in March.

Pullinger will join Instance in the Essex junior girls team.
