WBC International light-welterweight champion John Wayne Hibbert was a special guest at Canvey Island’s 21-15 win against Maldon on Saturday.
Hibbert has worked with the Islanders’ former skipper Alex Breading for the past two and a half years.
Breading is responsible for his diet and strength and conditioning training.
Breading’s brothers, Jamie and John, still play for the Islanders’ first team and John runs with Hibbert at Canvey’s Waterside Farm every Sunday.
Several of Canvey’s players also went to watch Hibbert’s latest fight, which saw him beat Tyler Goodjohn at the O2 Arena and Hibbert returned the favour by watching the rugby team in action at the weekend.
