BULPHAN’S Jim McAllister – one of the country’s leading martial artists – has just returned from an adventure training trip to Malaysia.
McAllister and one of his intructors, Martin Byas, trained with the world-leading salat and weapons master Jak Othman.
The visit was dedicated to training with bladed weapons of Malay origin and visiting old masters.
The training lasted eight hours each day and travelling to remote islands at weekends. They also featured in a documentary called “The journey: Tracing the history of salat, the ancient fighting art of Malaysia”.
McAllister will be adding blade tech to his teaching, which he does at his classes in Horndon, Grays, Basildon, Benfleet, Pitsea and South Woodham Ferrers.
Anyone interested in attending one of his seminars can call 07752 298237. Alternatively, email him at jamesgmcallister @yahoo. com
