Soham Town Rangers 2-1 Aveley
From Julius Martin Lane
Ryman One North
AVELEY went down 2-1 at near rivals Soham Town Rangers in a tight encounter.
Soham were good value for the win, with Danny Francis’ late consolation not enough for the visitors to take anything from the game.
James Marrable did well to deny Luke Stanley early on with Kyle Asante and Theo Ola looking lively for the away side.
Ryan Sharman shot wide for the hosts before the goal did eventually come. Stanley profited from some loose defending by Paul Preston and drilled at goal. Marrable made the save but Sharman was in the right position to tap Soham in front.
Matt Simpson should have doubled the home team’s lead but he shot wide when maybe shooting was the better option.
But Simpson did slot home after neat work on the wing, with the Millers struggling to make an impression on the game.
Substitute Francis lashed home a late equaliser, after the same man had been denied a penalty earlier on but it was too little too late for Justin Gardner’s side.
Aveley: Marrable, Bakare, Preston (Pedulu), Baker, Harrison, Deen, Ola, Holland, Asante (Francis), Stevenson, Elliott
