Grays Athletic 1 Lewes 3
From Mill Field
Ryman Premier League
Grays Athletic slumped to their first defeat under caretaker manager Mark Bentley as two late goals saw tehm go down to Lewes.
Grays came into the game off the back of successive wins under Bentley and were hosting a team who had only won one match on their travels all season.
And it was a familiar face who came back to haunt the Grays supporters, as Lewes struck first.
James Fraser and Sam Cole combined to allow ex- Grays player Leroy Griffiths to make space in the penalty area and slot home.
GRod Young, on loan from Welling United, was looking to make an immediate impression but struggled against a robust Lewes side.
Fraser shot wide for the visitors, with their best chance of the half coming on the stroke of half-time.
A effort beat the goalkeeper but was blocked by Matt Crabb as the home supporters screamed that the ball had crossed the line.
Grays stepped up after the break, with Dumebi Dumaka drawing parity with a powerful shot from the edge of the area.
Kenny Beaney saw an effort saved before Nicky Wheeler and Elliott Romain ensured the visitors took the spoils.
