Thamesmead Town 2-1 Tilbury

TILBURY were denied a point after an injury-time strike condemned them to defeat at Thamesmead Town.

Tilbury had won back-to-back games against sides in the top five and started this game on top.

Rimmel Daniel had an early effort at goal for the away side but it was Thamesmead who took the lead midway through the first half.

A deep cross from the left found George Benner and he headed past Jack Giddens.

But back came the Dockers and they were unlucky not to equalise when the lively Daniel hit an effort off the bar, with the following effort from Tony Martin struck wide.

The woodwork was proving a formidable barrier, with Rob Carter hitting the post for Mead before Emiel Akien crossed for Tom Wood, who saw his effort bounce off the woodwork.

Tilbury started the half strongly and a Jack Carlile free-kick found Wood who was again denied by the post, with the ball bouncing to safety.

And with four minutes to go it seemed as though the Dockers had claimed a point, when Jack West picked up a long punt and slotted into an empty net.

Francis Babalola was denied before Mead struck the decisive blow.

A kick was launched downfield and Leslie Thompson rolled the ball home to break Tilbury hearts.

Manager Gary Henty said "I felt we were a little unlucky after the chances we had, but the work rate and attitude was first class.”
