Peacehaven & Telscombe 2-5 Grays Athletic

From the Sports Park

Ryman Premier Division

GRAYS Athletic’s renaissance continued under caretaker manager Mark Bentley as he won his second game in a week at Peacehaven & Telscombe.

Blues won 5-2, having got off to the worst possible start when they went behind after only two minutes.

But first-half goals from Joao Carlos, Bradley Fortnum-Tomlinson, Jay Leader and an own goal put the away side in charge, with Bentley himself adding gloss to the scoreline late on.

It was a topsy-turvy day for Sami El-Abd, although he got the Magpies off to the best possible start, when he headed home inside the opening exchanges.

But it was the same man that got the equaliser for Grays 10 minutes later, when a goalmouth scramble saw El Abd get the final touch.

And a neat finish from Carlos turned the game on its head before the half was 20 minutes old.

And Fortnum-Tomlinson put some breathing space between the sides with his first goal for the club when he struck only two minutes later.

Fraser headed home with 20 minutes of the half still remaining before Leader restored the two-goal advantage moments before the break.

The second half was quieter, with both teams failing to create any clear cut chances, until substitute Bentley slotted home late on.

Grays move up to 13th after the result.
