EAST Thurrock United maintained their play-off push with a hard-fought draw against division favourites Maidstone United.

Sam Higgins' 24th goal of the season brought parity after East Thurrock goalkeeper David Hughes made an error to hand the opening goal to the visitors.

And it was a familiar face who opened the scoring. Former Concord Rangers winger Ben Greenhalgh profiting when Hughes dropped the ball at his feet having come for a cross.

The goal came after East Thurrock captain Tom Stephen had seen a drive crash off the bar before Kye Ruel sent an effort narrowly wide of the post.

But Stones were worthy of their half-time lead although not long into the second half Rocks were level.

A free-kick deflected into Higgins' path and his snap shot flew past the despairing dive of Lee Worgan.

Youngster Joe Paxman was handed his first start of the season and his shot was well blocked by the away 'keeper.

Maidstone had several late chances but it ended a draw, with Rocks now four points off the play-offs.
