Aveley 0-2 Tilbury

From Mill Field

TILBURY ended the year on a high with a fine win at play-off chasing neighbours Aveley.

Tony Martin and Jack Carlile scored the goals at Mill Field last night to condemn Aveley to their sixth home defeat of the season.

But it was the Millers that started the brighter, with an effort whistling wide of Jack Giddens’ post. But Emiel Aiken, the Dockers hero at the weekend, was also looking dangerous on the counter attack.

The best chance of the early exchanges fell to Theo Ola, who looked odds on to score after he rounded Giddens to fire home.

Elliott Johnson headed over for the Dockers before Ola was denied by the Tilbury goalkeeper.

And he was made to rue that miss when Tilbury opened the scoring midway through the first half. An error from Spencer Harrison allowed in Martin, and he dinked the ball over James Marrable to hand the visitors the advantage.

Kyle Asante and Harry Cook came close before Tilbury got a deserved second goal on the stroke of half-time.

Carlile’s shot crept in under the body of Marrable, who will be frustrated not to keep the ball out.

The second half saw fewer chances, with Pet Elbi shooting over and Charlie Gregory seeing an effort cleared off the line for the hosts.

But they couldn’t find a way back into the match, and Tilbury ran out comfortable winners.
