RELEGATION-THREATENED Thurrock men’s team got a confidence-building 4-2 win against Upminster in Eastern Division Three South East.

Christian Jenkins opened the scoring with a sweet strike before Steven Edwards and Nick Stapleton turned the ball over in the middle of the park to win a short corner from which T’s second goal came from.

Jenkins scored his second of the game to put Thurrock 2-0 up and the hosts were in dreamland when, from another short corner, captain Tom Ing fired home.

Upminster fought back in the second half and despite the best efforts of Thurrock keeper Andy Gaut, clawed two goals back, but Thurrock’s lead was too big to be cut back any more.

The ladies first team had a frustrating 1-0 against Burnt Ash.

The team had two goals disallowed and several other efforts cleared off the line on a day when one goal proved to be enough.

Thurrock’s ladies second team recorded a 3-1 win against Southend III.

Sarah Judd broke the deadlock with a great goal in the first half that was cancelled out early in the second period.

But a wonder goal from player-of-the-match Lauren Marshall and a great finish from Emma Grant saw the T’s to win.

The thirds also tasted victory, beating Redbridge 1-0.

Louisa Harrison and Shannon Harvey combined well as Harvey broke the deadlock in the first half.

Redbridge threw everything at Thurrock in search of an equaliser but keeper Eira Booth was on top form and kept a clean sheet.

Thurrock’s men’s second team were well beaten 4-0 by Waltham Forest IV but special mentions go to Ryan Jones, Josh Lamb and Max Blake, who all came up from the third team and acquitted themselves well.
