THURROCK’s first team ended a run of four successive London One North defeats by winning 39-0 at Woodford.

With five players back from injury the side looked to be in much better shape but the obvious lack of confidence was evident and a Hagen Mumba penalty and a Freddie Russo try was all Thurrock had to show for a first half display where they should have scored at least two more tries, both times losing the ball over the line.

However the second half was much better and Thurrock again looked dangerous when Mumba landed an early penalty and the resistance from the home side was finally broken when the backs made space for Russo to sprint clear for his second try, Mumba adding the conversion.

Tries came at regular intervals and scores came from Kealan Henry, Hagen Mumba and the pick of the bunch Nathan Farrell. Mumba added the conversions to all tries to run out deserved 39-0 winners.

Meanwhile, hat-trick hero Paul Stone scored a last-minute try to give Thurrock’s fourth team a draw with top-of-the-table Dagenham.

The game was played as 13-a-side because Dagenham were down two men.

Paul Stone gave Thurrock the lead after making a break from a line-out on the Dagenham 22-yard line. He converted his own try.

Dagenham levelled things up with a try of their own but, from a scrum on the half way line and ensuing rucks, T’s centre Arron Crooks burst over and went in under the posts. However he failed to convert his own try.

Thurrock then struck again, when Carrick Ryan burst over from a turnover ball on a Dagenham line-out in their own 22 to give them a 17-5 half-time lead.

The hosts made a dream start to the second half, scoring twice in quick succession to make it 17-17.

But Thurrock struck back with the best try of the game when, after some delightful, flowing rugby, Crooks scored his second try, converted by Stone.

Dagenham then regained the ascendancy with two tries of their own.

But Thurrock did not loose their heads and in injury time, with the forwards battering the Dagenham line, Crooks crashed over wide out to complete his hat-trick.

Stone then added the conversion to tie the game 31-31.
