Aveley 1-2 Harlow Town
From Mill Field
Ryman One North
AVELEY were beaten by promotion rivals Harlow Town thanks to a strike from goal-machine Alex Read.
Read is now one goal away from 30 for the Hawks this term and his clinical finishing proved the difference at Mill Field.
Aveley had enjoyed a superb week, beating Chelmsford City and AFC Sudbury but couldn’t keep pace at the top of the league despite a Jack Stevenson equaliser.
Harlow went ahead after 15 minutes when former Aveley man Junior Appiah crossed for Fabion Simms to open the scoring.
But Stevenson crashed home to draw the hosts level 15 minutes later.
The away side saw a goal disallowed and penalty shouts waved away before Read scored what proved to be the winner.
The striker played a one-two with skipper James Smith and fired into the corner.
Hawks goalkeeper Ed Thompson made some terrific late saves and that ensured the points went back to the north of the county.
